Okay, first off, no laughing.

I am looking to get a Quote to see if it's feasible to insure a car I can get very cheaply.

None of the usual suspects seem to want to Quote me for it (Online)

It's a Jag XJS V12 (now you know why it's cheap, they have a thirst)

Not sure on the Year other than a C reg. It's the Coupe I think (Butresses sloping from the rear window).

1st year driving, and yes, i know it's a 5.3L, but considering my age (29) and it not being a "high risk" car (I can't see your average burbery-clad oik ragging one round) I wouldn't expect it to be too bad. It will be garaged and alarmed.

Want it, as unlike most of them, it hasn't got the usual rust etc that they fall prey to.

Any Idea's or Suggestions.

Okay, you may now laugh.;)

My mate whos 28 but got his license in April 2007 got quoted 1500 Fully comped from Norwich union for a 1.6 manual 2003 Focus and thats the cheapest he found!. Any NCB?

if it really is amazing, buy the car, regardless of insurance, just means you'll have to drive something not quite as good for a while till you can get insured!

No, no NCB. No license yet actually.

Have driven this round a track though, and am quite comfortable with it. It's a wafter, and despite the headline grabbing 5.3L engine, doesn't like being thrashed. I expect it will lead me to try to be smooth, as it responds nicely to that.

Body work is sound, having needed one patch in it's life (how I found it in the first place, I patched it for the current owner). Engine is well maintained by the owner, and had a new interior 2 years ago. 72K on the clock. He needs the space though, and his missus is less than impressed at it's liking for Go Juice. So, it has to go (He's just bought a rather tatty DB7 too which clinched it)

If I can Insure it for less than the GDP of Guatemala, then I am having it. Space, Comfort and all for £100:D

Can't buy it if I can't drive it, only 1 alotted space where I live. Also need to chauffer the Fiancee and Daughter around now, hence me getting my license soon.

Ah... this is gonna be pick up the soap time methinks.

/goes off to check confused.com, missed that one in the first round.

Do you know much about these? If not, don't buy it. They are hugely complex and unreliable cars and take a dedicated enthusiast if you wish to use them for daily trips.

Was gonna say something like that myself, nevermind you might like how it rides, the economy of 5.3L will prolly bankrupt you, repairs might cost a fortune and so will the insurance.

It's not cheap, they never go for much more than £100 becuase people dont want them becuase they literally cost a FORTUNE to run and the rot like crazy.

Seriously, this car sounds like its beyond your means - dont do it.

random snippet of useless information but I saw a red XJS being filled up at the local esso station this evening, it was on a trailer mind you.

A fair bit. My dad is a Jag nut (Daimler Double Six and MKII in the past, now wants to convince his other half on an XJ220, but I very much doubt he'll manage it). He has seen the car, and thinks I'd be mad not to, if I can Insure it.

I'm a qualified welder, and structurally, the body is sound. As I said before, 1 patch, which I did. No Filler on it, which bodes well. I'm not too great with the Engine (I can do intermediate level stuff... wouldn't be worried about swapping a head gasket for instance).

A Mechanic friend has looked over it too. Says it's in very good shape for it year, not to mention relatively low miles (72K). It's been kept in a warm garage for the last 10 years, and rarely used if it's anything other than sunny. I would estimate condition as very good. Seen Similar ones go for about the 1-1.5K mark.

I am well aware of what they cost to run (15MPG combined, single digits with a heavy right foot) and have factored that in (Estimate 10-15K Annual Mileage).

The big Question is the insurance. Confused wanted to Email me a quote, but it's not arrived yet (Filled it in online last night).

Thanks for the concern, but I am fully aware of what I am taking on with this. My dad has made sure that I know it's a hard job t keep the Rot away, but the first job will be to re-apply Waxoyl the underneath if it needs it.

£5395 per year in fuel costs? No thanks.

Then don't buy one. Easy aint it?

Fox nailed it, you have to WANT one of these to be able to justify the running costs.

Unless you think that it is a really nice car (Which I do, my opinion), then in all honesty, don't touch it. It'll make you cry.

I wasn't going to buy one :)

You must really want one though - but for my money (almost £10k over 2 years in petrol costs), there are far better things to spend it on. Good luck if you go ahead with it though!
