Hello,

have arranged delivery of a new washing machine tommorow which is cold feed only. Currently, we have a hot feed and a cold feed which are plumbed into the pipes feeding the kitchen sink.

There are no valves or anything which we can turn to disengage the feed to the washing machine.

What do I need to do?

When the nnew machine comes the old cold feed will be connected which isnt a problem but the hot one will be surplus to requirements. I can't turn this off?

eugh.

track the pipes back through your house, you will find a stop valve unless its a complete new build and plumbing done by a dodgey bugger.

If it has been a bodge job, cut water from house isolate the bolier and drain pipe of conents.

either screw in a valve or cut of orginal connecter and install stop valve.

simples

I find it surprising theres no valves on the washing machine pipes, i mean, the actual connectors on the washing machine hoses are threaded... to attach to a valve. would be stupid if someones just used a straight connector

This ^^

Every house in the last 30 or so years tends to have a washing machine valve?

Are you sure there are not two small quarter turning valves on each pipe?

Nasty if there is no valve at all!
Stop supply, drain tanks, undo, then add valve or stopper, and then reconnect and switch supply back on.
Horribily long but not difficult task.

If by some miracle it doesn't have a stop valve, you can get self-tapping valves that you just screw onto the pipe without having to disconnect the water.

Sounds like the pipes have been welded directly onto the inlet pipes for the sink.

Just turn your water off at the mains, undo the flexible hoses leading from the pipes to the current washing machine, pop a stop valve onto the hot water pipe and fit a new flexible hose onto the cold that has a stop valve included.

all plumbed in now

sealed the hot join with a end blanking plate

washing machine won't fill up now

I hate plumbing

You did remember to turn the cold valve back on? :D

Failing that, some washing machines has a flow restricter (it's like a plastic gauze in the cold inlet at the back of the machine) - if your water pressure is not great have a look and remove it if it does.
