I'm going on holiday next weekend so I want to get a sat nav unit this week.
I Would like to have waited for tom tom 510 etc, but it seems they have been put back again.
I'm not really looking for the best value unit, more the best one for me.
My dad will also be using it in France so I was thinking the garmin nuvi 350 would be better than the tt one with the france sd card and either of these would be better than say the tt 700.
Any views would very helpfull.
Thanks.

A lot of peeps seem to say a pda is too slow though ?

that's a bit....general? PDAs come in many different shapes sizes and speeds. I use a windows 2003SE one with a 400mhz processor and 64mb of ram, and it doesn't have ANY problems with tomtom. Most pda's these days are faster / have more ram than this, so I can't see many having a problem.

Tom.

My PDA runs TT5 with no issues and is just as fast as the Go's. Mines a 266mhz compaq ipaq from about 1904

I bought a Nuvi 350 a week ago. All you have to do is read the online reviews to realise how good it is. A good feature of the 350 is that it calls out street names, as opposed to just saying turn left in 50 yards...a nice little feautre that means you hardly have to look at the screen at all. It's also very, very small, small enough to fit into your shirt pocket. Plus it has a long battery life (I was driving for 6 hours a few days ago, and it had lost 3/4 battery power)

Used a TT and a PDA/GPS jobbie.

tbh, the PDA was a faff - i had an Ipaq 1940 - quite old and slow, but it worked better than my mates newer one - i think its more down to the speed of the card than the ipaq

the TT unit was a breeze, simple and effective.

Plus compared to my mates TT700 my Axim X5's Speaker is weedy!!... Can't hear it!... even with all the windows up and the music off!... the TT's speaker os L-O-U-D even with Rammstein playing and the windows open!...

I think the TTONE has a slightly quieter speaker but the TT300 is vCheap on OcUK at the mo!.. (or it was!)

Thanks for the opinions :)
I don't really need a pda for anything else and I can't be bothered finding out which one to go for etc.
Think I'll go for the nuvi 350. As v man says I like the fact it calls out street names.

All the PDA solutions I've seen have been slow to load, slow to update and generally flakey.

Integrated gets my vote ;) (Tom Tom Specifically)

hmm trying not come across as a pda fanboy, slow to load? as in....to start the program? If so, you must've been using some ancient pdas :) my relatively slow one loads TT5 quicker than my friend's tomtom one can turn on, and updating is done within a few seconds (similar again). I have a 66x Sd card, dunno how much this helps though.

Variety of Ipaqs (5550 etc) and an acer offering or two.
Anyway, my tom tom turns on in about 2 seconds, how many pdas boot faster than that and then load the software?

Also, the ipaq/gps combo you're going to get for the same or cheaper than a tom tom is going to be fairly slow spec surely?
