Hey guys, a m8 of mine has given me his macbook and asked if i can reover his music from it to put on his new windows laptop. Before i go tearing apart the mac book i need some info

1)is it possible?
2)do macbook drives use standard 2.5" interfaces?
3)will i hit file system issues?
4)would it be easier to attempt to repair the macbook (freezes loading osx) and transfer to a usb or something from the OS?

Any suggestions?

right well not that hard really the hard drive will just pop out of the macbook look online how 2 do this will take 4min to do.

stick the hard drive in a shell so it will work over usb all laptop hard drives are the same so a sata shell will do

if your using vista or any windows program you need to download mac drive7 as this will let windows see a mac drive as they use a different format that windows can not see

this will let you use the hard drive like an external with all his data on it.

as for fixing the macbook whats wrong with it?

Thats great info m8 thanks a lot!

The macbook just sticks on the OSX loading screen, with the apple logo and the little circle going round and round forever. Hypnotic but sad. Is there a safe mode type thing i can go into or a restore mode or something?

Has your friend recently escaped from a mental asylum? :p

Take drive out (easy), usb cady and MacDrive to help Windows read the data.

I still cannot figure out why he got a new Windows laptop. Oh well, hope he enjoys it!

lol as an IT engineer i could say the exact opposite about the airy fairy counter intuitivness inherent in macs. They are fine if your used to them no doubt, but if day to day you deal with windows using a mac is like having teeth pulled! I think thats this guys problem he works on Windows all day and cant bring work home

As an IT guy (my job title varies too much lol!) I find the opposite. I hate having to switch back to Windows at work, not because it is less reliable (it isn't really) but because it is less intuitive.

It gets bad when I try and press ctrl-q to quit a program! :o:)

You must work with IT in a different way to me. But then i fix PC's and nothing much goes wrong with macs. I just hate how difficult the settings and system info is compared to windows. Its all too automatic. Im sure its great but my brain dont like it.
