I have an A8N SLI Premium. I can see the bios is 1009. How can I tell which chipset version I have. I need to upgrade bios for my new CPU 4600. Asus site tells me before I do that to upgrade chipset to V 6.65. I cant remember if in the past I upgraded chipset or not - doh Help please

when the asus website says u need 6.watnot, its not talking about the chipset version, its talking about what drivers you have.. so as long as they are up to date, u can install the new bios..

I ask because I have just bought a x2 4600 CPU I have bios 1009 so looking at the Asus site again I don't have to upgrade anything just slot it in- yes?

Chipset drivers/etc has nothing to do with CPU. BIOS revision does. A simple BIOS update (Firmware) provides support for newer chip on same Socket among other (very) important things :)

Simply, to be on the safe side, get the latest BIOS update/firmware

You can't "upgrade" or "update" a chipset, you can update the drivers (in this case from http://www.nvidia.com) but that is all.

As already said, for CPU support you need the appropriate BIOS version. The A8N-SLI Premium is one of the later boards and it is likely that you don't even need to update it.

OK thanks for all the help. What was confusing was the Asus tool that checks motherboard version. It said I would need to update bios. But before I did that to make sure I had the latest chipset drivers. But what I noticed was the "tool" was reading it wrong and thought the mobo was the A8NSLI not the premium. The A8NSLI does need driver and bios update.
But the premium (mine) does not as it has bios 1009 which will work with 4600. :)

Thanks for the Patience
