Hi all,

Need to top up the oil bit unsure what to get.

Engine is the 140 2.0 tdi. Currently on longlife service.

Thanks!

Went for the Halfords Audi/VW specific.

Can anyone actually read the dipstick on their engine? It is a nightmare! Put in 500ml which as far as I can see on the dipstick has brought it back to max and stopped the warning signal on the dash display.

Cheers!

You need to use proper VAG Longlife approved oil, not unapproved oil which simply claims to maybe meet the specs. Halfords own brand? Really?

Castrol Edge would have been fine.

It either meets the specs or it doesn't. Halfords own branded oil is not the kind of floorsweepings you get from the pound shop, it's decent quality oil.

If VW are like Ford then it's cheaper from a dealer than halfrauds and you know it won't void your warranty. The oil for my ST-2 is cheap as from main dealer it costs loads in halfords

Do VW, Mercedes and BMW etc all charge to have an oil approved? Or do you just submit and they will approve it once they have tested it?

Usual case is to run all the engine and seals tests required plus chemical and physical tests. Then you submit to an OEM and pay for an official approvals, only once they are happy will they approve the oil.

Only approved oils will retain a warranty too
