Hi, guys. Has anyone here negotiated a higher salary for a job that they've been offered?
I have been offered a job with company X. The job looks great and I'm pretty much decided to take it regardless. However, the job is in London and as such my cost of living is going to increase substantially. They do pay a London weighting, but this doesn't offset the entire increase in costs (offsets the train costs
, not housing!).
So, I was thinking of asking for more. However, I don't want to jeopodise the original job offer as I really want the job. Has anyone been in this situation? Should I ask for more salary? Should I do it on the phone explaining cost of living as a reason, or how I think that I'll bring experience to the position? Or should this be done via letter? Would they ever withdraw the job offer just for asking? Or should I just accept it and hope that I can increase it later via annual appraisals?
Thanks!
