Neighbour abandons their cat, what to do.....

Why is it frightening? I do wonder why it is scary that people might care about a cat? I for one can think of much scarier things than that.

Is it meant to imply people who care about animals don't care about people or don't see the problems in the rest of the world or something? I think you might be underestimating how many things people can care about at the same time if so.
I think a good measure of a person is how they treat animals.

The concern some people on this forum have for animals is really quite frightening.

:/

I guess it must hard to understand compassion, obviously your life has been devoid of the joy a pet can bring, that or you were ignored and the pet got all the attention and you have jealous emotions as a result. Either way, don't be scared little chap.

Some right worthless pieces of poo on this forum

Either take it to the shelter or adopt it if you can. Also make sure to report the owners for animal cruelty.

My friend's cat died. I tried to comfort her to gain entrance to her pants.

It didn't work.

Back to the drawing board.

No need to be condescending, if you had a brain cell in my head you'd understand what I was referencing.

There is nothing wrong with having concern for animals and not wish to see needless suffering, it's the hallmarks of a decent society in my opinion.

However there is a marked difference between this and the extent of some people's "concern" for creatures, some people here place them on the same level as humans, and some markedly wish for the death of those that harm animals.

That is freaky.

No need to question my brain cell count either. Seems I'm not alone in calling you up on your comment.

And don't start backtracking. Your comment about "levels of concern being frightening" doesn't exactly match with your opinion of "concern being a hallmark of decent society"... So what the hell are you actually inferring? The hallmarks of a decent society are quite frightening?

Wishing death on those who harm animals as you have highlighted is quite rightly bonkers and a little frightening. Quantifying whatever argument you want to start would be a good idea in future, brain cells or not I'm not a sodding mind reader.

There are well known documented links between people who like hurting animals and people who like hurting humans. Therefore our disgust of someone saying they want to hurt an animal is no different then our disgust of someone saying they want to hurt a human. It is scientifically / psychologically the same personality type for both things.

Mmm, I think those of us who feel compassionate towards the cat need to read Pate's posts carefully, as he's not saying that the cat should be treated poorly, or that there's nothing wrong with apathy towards it. He's more talking about mental cat lady type attitude where cats have an undue value to people. He's not the bad people :)

Where has anyone in this thread placed animals on par with humans

A cat locked on a balcony without food for days on end, i would describe this as needless suffering. no?

And as a decent society some of us have suggested taking the cat to an animal shelter or adopting it.

So that leaves us with, why the hell have you even bothered posting in this thread?

A lot of borderline sociopaths on here. Just watch them cry when they get a runny nose but they laugh about a starving pet.

Good job by the OP - just contact an animal charity or just keep feeding/adopt the cat. I wonder if those filthy neighbours treat their kids like that.

As a person who loves cats, I own 2 cats and they are free to roam the house as they see fit (usually spend most there time in my room being adorable).
Take it to the rescue centre, owners are not responsible and shouldn't have a cat, hope they don't have kids....
If they complain that it makes a mess in the house, they haven't taught it properly to do its business in one part of the house (litter tray), or outside.

a lot of you are very troubled individuals.

heres one of my cats, shes adorable:

We established in the other thread that cats are not pets and cannot be controlled. Rather, they are wild animals which choose to come back to their 'owners' house each night.

Or was that wrong and cats actually are pets and can be trained?

You can't have it both ways.

If you think about it for maybe longer than you should, that's a terribly depressing picture to paint. The big things in our lives are cats and bicycles.

Cats & bicycles are important things. A bit odd that computers didn't make your list, given this is nominally a computing forum- perhaps there's simply no disagreement on components left anymore.

Sliding scale re. training animals. Extent to which it can be trained is a function of the animal and the 'owner'.
