My router has been fine for a while but now all of a sudden it keeps locking up requring several reboots.

I cant even access the user interface on the router, to reboot it manually i have to unplug it then plug it back in.

just say you've tried it on two computers?

Done a factory reset?

I havnt actually as i have a lot of ports and settings that i have manually put in.

Surely seeing as i havnt changed anything for yonks it shouldnt need that should it?

I may try that later

Isn't getting too warm by any chance?

Good thought as they do run toasty if placed horizontal but my one is in the clip thing so its sticking up in the air (i) that way......I find that keeps it very cool.

Looks like i may just get a Billion router, these netgear ones are the worst ones netgear have ever produced i dont know how they get away with it.

Mine hangs fairly frequently with upnp enabled. Try disabling that if you haven't already. Although that won't explain why it was ok and isn't now ... still, worth a shot.

Will that not affect msn webcam?b/voice traffic

A lot of people report issues with the 834GT.
It's a shame - I've been using one for about 14 months now and it has been great.
Sure it has very occasionally locked-up and very occasionally rebooted itself for no reason.
However when we are talking about a piece of kit costing £50 - £60 you expect the odd little issue.

The best things I ever did with my 834GT were:

Latest Firmware a must
Sit it on it's end using the supplied feet - they do get warm
Even though I had a laptop with a Netgear wireless card in, I turned the wireless to B&G only - totally turning off their bonding system for 108mbps.

you should not have to put up with a faulty product what ever the price really, so i cant see why you would think this router was any different....

How ever im running the firmware listed in my first post. It is up on its feet......and i dont use wireless

Backup your settings (very easy) and try the router on another PC and/or ADSL service.

No, that's not what I'm saying.
What I'm saying is that any router in the £50 area cannot be expected to be flawless when running 24/7.
If it was then why would I even consider buying something in the soho range of £200 - £250 or something at a more corporate level of £500+?

If my £50 router falls over once a month after being on 24/7 because of a "bug" - let's say the software causes it to reboot then I'm saying you really can't complain at a £50 router.
Sure you could argue that it must be faulty to do that - I'm just disagreeing.

I've been more than happy with the 834GT.
In the 12 months I've been running it (remembering some of those dire early firmware revisions that caused a lot of hassle) I'd say I've averaged one unexpected reboot a month - not one a month, 12 in 12 months.
It's just I find that acceptable for such a relatively cheap piece of hardware.

I understand what you're saying but I've not needed to reboot my DG834G - I don't think it's too much to expect a similar level of performance from other NETGEAR products.

Same here, have had mine running for about 16 months now, and think its been re-booted 4 times. Mine is mounted on its end using those little stands that come with the router, so maybe that helps keep it cool enough. Either way, I cant complain about this particular piece of Netgear kit - but the pci wifi network adapter i bought at the same time as the router was a complete dog. Swapped that for a Belkin one and had no probs at all since. Sometimes I think its the luck of the draw, but it really would be nice to have confidence in the kit when you hand over your hard-earned.

Hmm, the underside of mine (although I have it stood up vertically) is quite warm... is that bad...?

I've had to reboot mine countless times now grr

I have been having an ongoing issue with my 834gt since my exchange was upgraded to DSLmax, but fingers crossed it seems to have leveled out now.

It would just cut out and not reconnected to the web at about 7pm everyday, nothing to do with heat as I could leave it off for days and it still wouldnt connect.

Has your exchange been upped to dslmax??

I have read other people having problems with this to.

i think netgear should recalled these things seeing as there are hundreds of people if not thousands with problems on there forums

I agree, but its almost impossible to get anysense from the phone support as english isnt there native language.

think ill just end up selling this on and buying a linksys one.
