Netflix surround sound issue with 4k content

Just got a new 4k TV and am loving it. Watched a few 4k shows on Netflix last night. Had no issues at all with streaming (using WiFi wireless N and getting about 30mb).

However, when I tried to use the Dolby Digital 5.1 option it wouldn't really work properly. The visuals were fine and didn't buffer at all. But the sound seemed to be struggling. When I paused it for a while then resumed it was fine for a few seconds then started to sort of clip / stop and start constantly.

I ended up switching it to stereo sound in Netflix settings for the content and it was fine. My receiver was able to convert it to ProLogic 2 so I was still getting surround.

Any ideas? Maybe just pushing the bandwidth a tad too much when 4k and Dolby Digital?

I think your issue is your wifi speed. I'm guessing your at 2.4Ghz ? If i were you i'd at least try it connected via an ethernet cable to rule wifi speed out. If you have the option to connect at 5Ghz through wifi then use it.

Yeah seems to be. Sadly, ethernet is not an option for me atm. I might try 5ghz option. It's a Sky router. I just do it in the router admin panel don't I?

Sky isn't my ISP, so have no idea if the sky router does 5Ghz i'm afraid. What does matter though and should be easy to find out, does your new TV have the ability to do 5Ghz over wifi ?

Thanks, turns out the Sky Hub router is only 2.4ghz. It's Wireless N at least!

5ghz might be available if I upgrade to Sky Q but not sure I want to. I might just have to live with it I guess. Could be worse! Just odd how visuals are fine but DD 5.1 struggles. At least I can use ProLogic 2 when watching 4k content.
