I've got a couple of offices linked using a Netgear DG834 and DG834G both v2, latest firmware.

For the first couple of days the connections work fine then they will either connect but not route or they will not connect at all unless I reconfigure the vpn.

As it would seem that VPN was added to these tings as an after thought and after three weeks of trying I'm chucking them in. Can anyone recommend some Wireless/Modem/Router/Firewalls with that support VPN tunneling and passthrough between them?

The Netgears are great for home use but the VPN connection is next to useless.

Thanks

I've got a pair of DrayTeks 2800G doing a site-to-site VPN plus remote client VPN to one end.

Normally I use SonicWalls for VPN work but the customer didn't have the budget for them. No problems reported since I installed them so a thumbs up from me so far (about three or four months of use now).

What are you connecting to it? Intel wireless cards or chipset?

If so - check the latest drivers for that.

I had problems connecting with my new wireless Netgear router on my T42. An IBM vantage software update and all's working and the lappy is even faster.

I did notice on my research that people had problems with your router and intel WLAN cards. The response was to use the latest Intel Pro set drivers.. may be worth giving it a go.

Tarious computers various nics, its not related to a single one.

The vpn on these things is just flakey. I've got a site to site vpn (exeter to liskeard same isp) that works fine for a couple of days then just flakes out.

I also have a site to site vpn between my office and home, although this is to be replace with a wireless link in the next week or so. This does exactly the same, works for a couple of days and then either refuses to re-establish the link or if it does refuses to transmit anything through it.

Have you tried running a ping from site A to site B's router's internal address. I do this and keeps my DG834 to DG834G VPN up. Obviously you would need a PC running 24/7 at site A to keep the ping running.

HTH,

I've got IKE keep alive set to ping a network printer on each lan from each router.

Config as follows;

Router A (Main Office):
Remote IP: 81.**.**.**
Local Lan: 192.168.16.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
IKE: 192.168.1.10 (Network Printer IP).
Remote Lan: 192.168.1.0
Subnet: 255.255.255.0

Router B (Remote Office)
Remote IP: 82.**.**.**
Local Lan: 192.168.1.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
IKE: 192.168.16.200 (Network Printer IP)
Remote Lan: 192.168.16.0
Subnet: 255.255.255.0

Everything was mostly set by following the VPN wizard, apart from IKE. I've also tried using 192.168.*.1 as the starting address for the remote lan but get the same results.

I've also set one of the PC's at the remote office to ping the server at the main office by sticking a command file in the startup folder so that as soon as someone logs onto it it pings the server 10 time. This should be enough to wake up the connection.

Appreciated.
