Netgear Router causing msn and windows update problems?

Lo all,

I've just upgraded my router to a DG834N and now I can't log into MSN Live (messenger or my hotmail account) or get windows updates. I've found another case of this whilst googleing the problem and it seems there is at least one more case of this. However, he solved the issue by updating the firmware and both the router and my network card are fully up to date.

Anyone got any ideas? should I try down-grading the firmware to the last version before the new version?

Is UPnP enabled on the router?

Is there anything on it which may be stopping it? firewall/port forwarding rules?

Yeah UPnP is on, It's all been given access through the firewall including Windows Firewall and Sygate. Port forwarding's been sorted as well.
