I've been looking at this wireless card for my PC:

http://www.intel.com/network/connectivity/products/wireless/prowireless_mobile.htm

It doesn't seem to require an ariel and it's very small, which has attracted me to it, however it says it has a mini PCIe connector, would this work in a PCIe x1 slot on a stadard ATX motherboard? I've been searching for an answer but have found nothing conclusive.

It is the same card I have in my Dell laptop so I have had good experience with it (just hope the 64bit drivers are up to scratch!).

That card is only for laptops matey.

Wouldnt fit in a desktop board unless it had the mini pcie connector for it.

And no desktop board i know of does. As said above PCI-e x1 is different.

If you have some free USB headers on the MB then just get a USB backplate and take off plate and plug in a USB adapter. That's what I've done for my backup server and its just taped to the base of the case.

Half arsed I know but its neat and it works.
