network drivers..

Wireless is very rare in a motherboard. Using a cable quicker and more reliable plus the manufacturers wouldn't want the extra cost of putting a wireless device on all of them.

Go for a PCI or PCI-E wireless card.

i might not be very knowledgeable but i would have thought most mobo's nowadays would already have wireless cards built in? and surely if not, it would be something the guys at ocuk would think to mention during extensive discussion of what is a relatively high end pc.

As others have said, most motherboards do not have wireless network functionality built into the board - in fact I'm not sure I've ever come across one that does. Most users of high-end PCs will want to use cabled connections due to speed and reliability; which is why it probably didn't come up when talking to the guys at OcUK.

The only option is for you to take the advice of others and either get yourself a PCI/PCI-Express WLAN card, or a USB dongle.

Or alternatively this could be the ideal excuse to start wiring your house with Cat6...

thanks for the advice and info guys. i will probably just pick up a wireless usb adapter, as this seems like the simplest and quickest solution. fyi, i do actually do a lot of online gaming and over the years my pc gaming has mainly been with laptops and on the move so using wireless has been the online option. probably also explains my misconception about pc's already being set up for wireless. meanwhile i have also gamed a lot on psn when at home, and have used this with wireless and wired connections to no noticeable difference..

is the main issue with wireless vs wired packet loss? and is the difference really that big? i do not use far from the router..
