sorry if this has been asked before

When i try and connect to my bros laptop through the network it asks for a password. The thing is we never set up a password i think its a default windows thing not sure but i was wondering if any one knows the password or knows away for me to find the password

Yeah as above, and how are you connecting? start > run > pcname?

Make sure they're both in the same workgroup... control panel, system... computer name tab.

i am using XP Pro, XP Home and Vista all get the same password screen they are all on the same workgroup i have tried mshome and workgroup (defaults).

currenly though im trying to connect an xp pro pc to an XP pro laptop

i am trying to connect to the pc through my network place and then through the workgroup which currently is mshome then i select the laptop and it loads for a sec then it comes up with a password screen

i have no problem connecting to his other computer and i can connect to my other pcs that i have fine i have never had this problem before

Try going to users (control panel) and turning on the guest account.

Set a password on the account your using to login to the other PC. "This behaviour is by design".

Try sharing a folder? Right click > properties > sharing > share this folder on the network.

Just double check and MAKE SURE both are in the same workgroup (make sure they're both identical cases)

To connect, try .. start > run > //<pc_name>
