Never played a game online..how much time to be decent?

Team Fortress 2 (and CounterStrike:Source?) has a 'play with bots' mode. So you can try stuff and get a feel of the game.

CS:S online is a pretty punishing. TF2 is more relaxed.

If you play online games to win or be the best then be prepared to feel very inadequate very quickly!

For the average player there's 50% of players that are better than you

Play for fun and lose the ego and youll be fine, at least that worked for me.
