Neverwinter Nights 2, should i buy?

Like the first one this game will really take off when the community starts putting out mods. It runs pretty sluggish on my rig (A64 4000+ @ 3GHz, X1800XT, 2GB RAM) unless you turn off shadows. If you liked NWN1 you will probably like this.

Great game, but very buggy last time I played it. It seems more story driven than NWN1 with more interaction with your party members, which is a good thing. I hated that in NWN1.

Do you know if they're working on anymore patches for it?

I think it's up to 1.3 at the moment, is that the version you have, and its still buggy?

I finished the game on the patch before 1.3, so I guess a lot of the bugs have been fixed. There'll be loads of patches in the future for the game to accomadate the community modding, so that won't be a problem. :p

Its like NWN1, give it a few months and there'll be loads of mods and player made campaigns and persistant worlds to play with, so its worth the money in the long run. Even though the campaign was buggy when I played it I thought it was fantastic, so you won't be wasting your money.

Patch 1.4 is in development according to a dev post on the Bioware forums and adds new features as well as bugfixes. 1.3 seems though to have got rid of most of the gremlins for me.

Hated it. The most uninspiring gameworld I've ever experienced in an RPG - just spent too much time loading in chunks of seemingly unconnected locations with zero interactivity........never once felt like I was "in" the game. Horrible camera. Horrible co-op play. Average graphics with rubbish framerates. Buggy. I'm struggling to find a single positive thing to say.

I agree with you on that one, all the loading done my head in.

If you judge it on the contents of the box it's not worth it. NWN(1 & 2) are all about community created content. NWN1 still has a HUGE following, and NWN2 is quickly gaining momentum.

Abso-blooming-lutely. By the end I felt like a spectator in a linear slide-show. It has its attractions (it's D&D after all) but on the whole it lacks any imagination and is a technical abomination. Stick to replaying Baldur's Gate.

Lacks imagination - this is the killer. You get no surprises at all, it's all by the book trash fantasy.

10 minutes into the game you've found out you're a mysterious orphan and you've off to uncover a mysterious artifact and you've met a dwarf who loves brawling. You could write an application to churn out this type of generic rubbish

i liked it at first, but the constant loading and tiny game areas really got to me after awile so about 3/4 into it i uninstalled it, not missed it. i might try again next year with patch 1.20? and the game gets finished? hopefully i'll be able to d/l a patch that allows resume too then, at the mo i can't patch it i'm on a modem, the whole thing is useless

Anyone tried running this in Vista RC2? I've just tried and the menu is flickering and the text is all over the place. Definately a problem.

Runs fine on the final version of Vista business, this is with the latest beta ati drivers.

I'm using nvidia drivers, but I've heard they're not great yet. Ah well, not too worried at this stage. Beta drivers and OS, guess it's to be expected.

Hi

My young nephew was given this game yesterday and cannot for some reason play online with it. Now in typical fashion all I have been told is it was fine in single player mode but failed to work when you tried to go online and displayed a error message. I asked what the failure message was and all they could remember was it mentioned a "module" .
Sorry for the vauge description but have any of you experienced a similar problem when trying to go online with the game ?.

Thanks

Drphibes

ps the nephew is on 2mb Blueyonder for his internet.

This pretty much sums up my experience of the game, I absolutely love the forgotten realms novels and previous games. But this was a real disappointment. :(
