New 2012 MBP IMAC Details inside

If you're taking CDs/DVDs, just take a slim DVD drive, too? It's basically the size of a CD/DVD case, no? TBH, I just have films in a digital format, ordinarily, so don't ever use my DVD drive.

I am going to buy a Mac when they are refreshed. Probably an iMac and a Macbook for my wife.

One thing we want to do more of is video editing of home movie stuff. We want to burn that to DVDs to send to family. My mother in law is 76 and lives in rural Ireland. She doesn't have a computer.

Should I just abandon sending her stuff as Apple say so? Oh, I buy an external DVD drive - well that really sells the "All in One" iMac to me.

:)

People hanging on to old tech is what the problem is. Not the new tech. Thunderbolt can do displays, attached devices, transferring HD films and ethernet all at the same time, down one cable, over tens of feet.

I long for a world when I don't have to go hunting through a box of cables (or in fact need to keep a box of cables) to find one I need and can instead do all I need with one. Hell, the MacBook could use just one mini display port and you can have a dock with all the adapters you need taped to the back of a desk out of sight and just keep a couple of adapters in your bag for when you're out and about.

In an ideal world, everyone would use a technology like Thunderbolt, its not people that are holding it back by clinging onto old technology, its the fact that anything with the name Thunderbolt on it currently attracts a premium price.

The other factors that limit its presence is that its only on Macs at the moment and the biggest one of all is that businesses aren't just going to buy all new equipment because Thunderbolt offers an all in one solution. Think for a second at just how much it would cost to replace all your kit, given that we are now in recession again, nobody is going to be making unnecessary spends.

Right now, Thunderbolt is squarely a product for the Mac Home User who wants the best.

Meanwhile, USB 3.0 offers speed improvements for those who needs, but doesn't require replacing other bits of tech, it's cheaper and already on more products than Thunderbolt is.

I do convert most stuff before I leave but sometimes I end up buy more while I'm travelling on impulse. I bought the MBP as it is powerful yet light.

Having to carry extra accessories just seems to be pointless especially as something els em have to purchase. Apple should differentiate the Air and MBP range or get rid of one altogether.

Hopefully the whole of ocuk forums doesn't have to convert their posts in to baby speak for you?

Did I ever even come close to suggesting that? I made a post which stated my own personal opinion and personal preference. I then said if Apple didn't provide the goods I would go elsewhere. So no, I was not suggesting everyone else should put up with my want list.

That was the implication I got from your post... Sorry I was wrong... :(

Back on topic...

Apple wouldn't have gotten rid of ethernet and the DVD drive without good cause. I understand that people don't want to carry around DVD drives and cables etc... and that is not what apple is about... I'm sure we will see some solution.

I welcome the new MBP (although it does seem like a MBA)... I assume that it'll have SSD and a conventional HDD ?
