Hello everyone.
Im looking for a new good quality monitor for home.

At work I use a 30" HP 2560 x 1600 monitor.
Currently at home I use a 21" Sony CRT.

I believe a monitor is a good long term investment and although a 24" is basically a wide screen version of a 21" I would like to go bigger for home use unless convinced otherwise.

I read on here that someone thought 26" was the optimum size for 1920 x 1200?

So looking at 26, 27 or 28 at this resolition unless im convinced back to 24"

Will use PC for . Web. Gaming. CAD.

The Hanspree/g 28 is cheap, I have a buf=dget of 600, but less is always better!

Ive tried searching various forums and see ips, TN etc, but realise hardly anyone has tried everything, though blurry text would drive me mental!

Just gonna throw this out there... I'm sure people will disagree. But how about the 24" cinema display? Excellent ips panel, LED backlight and looks ultra sexy. You will need a displayport though...

Personally, I'd probably be looking to spend £600 on two 16:10 format screens. I like working in this way, especially for CAD.

Hi Stupot.
For CAD at work I love 30". I could go down to 24 im sure. But I want some wow factor for home. if I get it from 24 then fine, but im thinking 26?

+1 nice monitor

I also hear Dell are releasing a 27 IPS monitor which uses the same panel as the lovely new 27 iMac. Should be very nice indeed.

Also I think the Dell 2709W is worth a shout. I use one and it is fantastic - a lovely step up from a 2408WFP (which was very nice itself).

Compared to reading text on my 24in - I find the 27 to be much easier on the eyes and has plenty of screen real-estate.

It will be interesting to see how much the new Dell 27" will retail at plus when is it out?

While I'd say the Dell 2709W is absolutely excellent for desktop stuff when it comes to playing games I'd avoid it like the plague. When the monitor has been on for a few hours it has problems with green colours and movement in games, things go brighter when you move and it's so annoying I'm using a TN based 22" monitor for games now and the 27" Dell as a second monitor for films.

any alternatives if the Dell 27 is as you say?
HP? NEC?, Samsung, Hanspree, anything!

Not that I'm aware of. Dell 2709W wise, I've had 1 revision A01 and 2 revision A02's and both have had the same problem. If I could go back I'd have probably got an IPS based 22 - 24" montor for games/desktop and bought a seperate large TV for films. It seems a great all round large monitor does not exist above 24" unless you are prepared to make do with TN tech.
