Current system:
Pentium D 3.00ghz
3 gig ddr2
gainward 4650 (512mb)
22" samsung 2243
Used mainly for gaming, lfd,Cod series,Anon 1404, Risen, ARMA II (current spec failed the later)

Budget £550
Considering:
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955
Asus M4A785TD-V EVO AMD 785G
Sapphire ATI Radeon 5770 Vapor-X 1024MB
Samsung Spin Point F1 SATAII 320GB 16Mb Cache Hard Drive
Optiarc AD-7240S 24X DVD+/-RW
2x2Gb PC-10666 ddr3 Memory (1333Mhz) (probably corsair)
Antec 300

As for PSU have new Corsair vx450watt- Would this be enough, not planning to OC yet.
Selected the 5770 over 4870/4890 due to less power consumption. From what ive read the 4870/4890 would out perform 5770.
Also unsure if to go for Phenom II X4 quad 955 or Phenom II X2 Dual Core 550 as i said its main use will be gaming.
Any ideas/tweaks welcome,
Thanks simon

the spec is nice yea stay with the 955, in future games start to use the extra 2 cores.
As for the psu 450w is just about ok at full load, I would get something like a 500w plus to be on the safe side.

stay with the quad as you can afford it, althrough the 550 can be unlocked

looks good overwise, enjoy

Cheers for the feedback. Did consider the 550 for unlocking but its my first build. Will keep the Corsair 450w for now,its borderline but brand new.
Now give myself a 24h cooling off period before i hit the buy button.

Is that your limit maxed out?

As if not I would suggest if it will be your boot drive to upgrade to the 1TB F3, the cache on the 320GB is 16meg, on the F3 it is 32meg.

For a storage drive it is not really of much importance, but for a boot drive this doubling up of the cache will provide considerable improvements.

You also have not mentioned a CPU cooler in your setup, are you planning on using the AMD stock cooler?

Budget is abit maxed out (need to get OS).
Was planning to use AMD stock cooler. I assume from your question that it might be wise to get after market cooler?
I also see the Asus M4A785TD-V Evo is out of stock considered getting the Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P AMD 770 (but no crossfire, which i may regret in the long term).
What after market cooler would you recommend, also which memory?
Thanks
