Specifically it's the right size and power requirements for me.

Those passive cards look ideal for a HTPC build.

Might be time for an upgrade to my HD5450, although it manages most games on medium settings @ 1920x1080 - amazing performance from a £30 card (using 19W max). I'll probably need to upgrade to a £100+ card to notice a significant improvement, but these could be contenders.

I have my 5770 overclockd @ 950 / 1435 which i would say is a bit better than this 6790. All depends how far the 6790 would overclock to see if it compares i suppose. Personally would still recommend the 5830 though.

HD6870 is just about on par.

HD6950 (both1 and 2GB versions) are a fair bit faster.

even the 6790 is approximately the same spec as a old 4890 with newer architecture (to me it looks like it) or i suppose similar to a 5830/5850 so he's right in that nothing touches his 5870 here.
