even the 6790 is approximately the same spec as a old 4890 with newer architecture (to me it looks like it) or i suppose similar to a 5830/5850 so he's right in that nothing touches his 5870 here.

I know, but I don't know why he's expecting lower mid range cards to compete with his high end card. Completely different markets.
