Are all these new Beetles releases (remasted/rock star ect) connected to Michael Jacksons death? i cant seem to find a clear answer about the copyright issues

Maybe Michael was upset because 'The Girl is Mine' and 'Say,Say,Say' weren't going to be included in the box set.

Alternatively Paul McCartney insisted they wait until after Michael's death to make sure he gets the royalties and not Michael!

Well The Beatles Rock Band has been in development since well before Michael's death so don't know about that.

Although maybe his death was involved in the grand scheme of this game release....

I thought Jackson had to sell his rights to the Beatles catalogue years ago when he needed cash? (I vaguely remember it being news at the time).

An way I doubt if the release is due to his death as the remastering work would have taken a long time and a fair whack of cash, so was probably well under way before he died.

Wasn't it sold to Sony, or some division of Sony for about $50m

Now you mention it, I think I do remember something about it in the news...

It depends what sources you read.

Some say he bought them for £24m in the 1980s, some say £50m. As for selling, again its hard to tell. Most sources agree what he had was worth £400m, and he had to sell half of that to Sony.

I thought Macca managed to buy them back a couple of years ago?

AFAIK jacko co owned them with sony

seems to be true.

in in terms of royalties and the way they have to be paid the beatles get 50% , jackos publishing company gets 25% and sony gets 25%

thats according to news reports from the mid 90s though.
