New Bike Time - KTM 1290 Superduke R Special Edition

Yep a decat with a short can is obnoxiously loud. With a decent sized tail pipe like the Akra and the baffle in it's just right.

If you really hate your neighbours (and ear drums) fit an Austin Racing GP1R :o

 That's just a carbon fibre bean can! :D

Can you tell me how it was riding the cb1000r please? I've read they are pretty gutless unless you are sitting high in the rev range? I want that instant torque that throws you to the back of the seat, do you get that? :)

You ain't gonna get that with an IL4, they're all about linear power. You want a nice big thumping v-twin for that sort of instant torque.

In general, yes but (I know we've had this conversation before) there are notable exceptions. The IL4 in the S1000R and XR delivers fantastic pick up across the whole rev range in any gear. A bug thumping v-twin doesn't guarantee usable torque either - try fully opening the throttle in 6th gear on a Multistrada between 40 and 50 mph and you'll feel like you're riding over rumble strips!

Get something like the Speed Triple or Superduke

Personally I think there's buckets of low down torque on the CB1000R. The main reason I didn't buy a Ducati 899 was my CB made it feel slow as the Ducati didn't have that instant power.

Test ride one, is the best way to see.

Full throttle at low RPM in a the tallest gear ratio isn't going to yield the best results from any bike e.g. the S1000R won't be terribly enthusiastic to accelerate from 40mph in 6th, so does that mean it doesn't have usable torque?

All bikes need to be ridden appropriately to get the best performance from them. In the case of V twins, and especially singles, laboring the engine at low RPM is just going to result in lots of transmission snatch.

I don't disagree at all. I just wanted to dispel the v twin myth that torque begins and ends with that type of engine.

Rear pegs have come off and new exhaust has gone on, AustinRacing -

Fair point!

To be fair, the Akro sounded pretty good with the baffle out, but the AR has the edge I feel. A little deeper. A little beefier.

Such a great looking bike. It still sounds pretty neutered even with that exhaust though. Is the video representative of the actual sound?

Hasn't it still got the big CAT box? Most of the silencing will be in that, rather than the end can, like most modern bikes.

If it had a decat pipe then it would be stupidly loud.

Yeah, it still has it's cat. I did have someone on the SuperDuke forum offering me a good price on pretty much the same exhaust but with the straight through. I was saying I was concerned it would be too loud, asked the seller why it's not fitted to his bike... 'the Mrs said it was too loud'...

Thanks. As above though, it's at a reasonable level I think. I don't think you can ever really recreate the real sound on a phone video though.
