Our boiler is on it's last legs so we've had a quote for a new one from our usual plumber for £2400. This is for a bosch worcester boiler in a 3 bed detached. I've since seen that british gas do some sort of scrappage thing on TV - are they likely to be any cheaper or do they just add the £400 to the quote in the first place lol

I'm told that British Gas are typically very expensive.

Worcester Bosch are a good bet.

Have you got any other quotes? It's usually worth asking around. If you have a quote in mind from your usual guy, you can see if anyone else is prepared to do it for less, assuming they aren't going to do a rubbish job.

the scrappage is only on the worst performance boilers, ours was over 20yrs old and awful yet still didnt qualify!

we paid that for our worcs bosch (also in a 3 bed house) including a power flush of the heating and some crazy magnet/filter thing that was added into the heating system

couldnt get the price down, but did negotiate to a 'top of the line' boiler for the original quote price

good luck!

As I recall, when we had ours done we paid something between £2k and £2.5k for a new boiler, full flush, removal of the old boiler and tank, a new radiator in the kitchen, and replacement radiators in the bathroom and one of the bedrooms.

Think we did pretty well there.

Its not a bad price for a Worcester, but you shop about you should be able to get it supplied and installed for around £1600.

We do off cheap boiler installs for about £1100 and WB's between 15-1800. (in Scotland).

depends what boiler you have that needs replacing, if you already have a combi you shouldnt be paying much more then 1k..

if you have an old back boiler, then anywhere between 1200 and 2k..

dont buy a s*** boiler, when they break down the parts cost a lot.. buy baxi/potterton.. good boilers, parts are cheap but you shoudlnt need to fix it if you have it fitted properly and service it every yr

.

I was quoted £3700 by British Gas, the engineer poped in and I happened to know him,

I got him to do it privately he put the same boiler in for £1700 + 200 for some unexpected electrical works and a new hotwater tank..

so we saved £2000 on the boiler and install and porbably £500 on the extra bits

it collects iron deposits, before the inlet of the boiler, as the iron will in the end stop your boiler working properly..

you're supposed to clean out your magner clean every yr

their should be 2 valves right next to it. turn them off, once you turn them off the valve should have a little stamp mark saying they're off..

unscrew the top, a little water will come out.. pull the whole thing out and wash any iron away down your drain

this, we paid just over 1k ~3.5 years ago for our new combi one.

Be aware there is a bit of a scene tax on Worcester Bosch boilers there are plenty of other good reliable boilers out there that don't attract quite such a high premium and never be afraid to shop around and play people off against one another most plumber/builders etc expect to have to reduce their initial price in negotiations.

weve just paid 1.6k for a new condensing combi boiler (vaillant) two new radiators and connecting the old radiators to the new boiler with a flush and remote control thermostat this was from an old coal fire heating system im sooo not used to hot water on tap and being able to just run a bath!!
