My little pug has been fitted with new discs and pads today, but how should I bed them in?

There seems to be two schools of though...

(a) drive very carefully for the next few hundred miles - hope that you dont need to do an emergency stop.

(b) half a dozen high speed emergency stops.

Is there a right answer to this?

just drive normally I find with a few harsher braking moments mixed in now and again they bed in fine

loads of heavy braking may warp your discs and lots of Soft dragging of the brakes can cause the pads to glaze

although like you said there is lots of opinions on this topic just as there is for bedding in new pistons / block

When i had new disks and pads i was told to drive carefully for 30-50 miles, then drive as normal, he said these didnt need bedding in these days.

Maybe different for different types i suppose.
