Hi

about to build a new pc, already have everything bar MB,CPU & Ram, my last 4 pc's have been AMD but want this build to be Intel and need some advice on components, current spec is amd 64 4800x2, epox series 939 MB & crucial Balistix pc4000 ram. got nowhere to move with the MB socket that im on, I want to get an intel board preferably asus, and one thats gonna give me a bit of room to upgrade in the future. I dont run many apps at one so a dual core rather than quad and for memory id like to get the fastest i can (2gig but will add another 2 later), however i dont overclock. my budget is 4-£500

One other thing, is the install of intel CPU's the same as AMD or is there anything i should know before hand?

Any help is appreciated

Fairly the same. In case of any problem or you get stuck refer to manual or here (though still no 'Search' :mad: ). This might also be useful ;)

excellent stuff, and without stating the obvious the ram is compatable with the mobo (only asking as ive been caught out a couple of times with this? (my knowledge of ram is shocking)

cheers again

Yep, all compatitble, you also have the option of upgrading to DDR3 ram in the future with that mobo.

Yes you would but if you were gonna spend more than the e6750, you might be better opting for the quad-core q6600.

Oh and this line of motherboards (with a P35 chipset) will support the upcoming Intel CPUs that will be built on a 45nm process, so it should survive at least one upgrade in the future.

Like nullvoid mentioned it will be supporting the new CPU's from Intel and like he also said if your spending that much on a E6850 then get the Q6600.

yeah?, i only ask as ive seen a few posts advising people to stick to dual core rather than quad. It would probably be another couple of years till the next upgrade so i want to be as future proof as i can.

ok, thanks all.

had a look about some more and put this together

Asus P5KC Combo Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3 Motherboard £99

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AA804) £180 (2sets

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail = £176

Total = £455

would this work together? also my psu is 600w will that be ok with this set up + a 8800gtx and will i see much difference in cpu over the AMD644800x2 that i have now?

You'd be surprised what a simple BIOS update can do. See HERE :)
