New build - budget £400 > £500

Given the price diffference and what appears to be only be small gains in performance in most tests, I'll probably go for the i5. Would I be able to run any games with the i5 and no gfx card?

I'm kinda going for a similar setup but might wait a little while for some price drops.

Well you will be able to play some games with the Cpu GPU but you will have to game on low resolutions.

Hi. I've just checked and my current gfx card is PCI-E.

Primary Adapter
Graphics Card Manufacturer Built by ATI
Graphics Chipset RADEON X800 Series - Secondary

Graphics Bus Capability PCI Express
Maximum Bus Setting PCI Express x8

Memory Size 256 MB
Memory Type DDR3

Core Clock in MHz 398 MHz
Memory Clock in MHz 493 MHz

Would this be suitable as a stop-gap until I purchased the 6850?

Hi all.

Below are the components I've decided I will purchase:

1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W)
1 x MSI Z77A-G43 Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
1 x MSI HD 6850 OC 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
1 x GeIL Dragon 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GD38GB1600C11DC)
1 x Xigmatek Asgard Pro Gaming Case - Black

I'm unsure on the following however:

1 x Intel 330 Series 60GB 2.5" SATA-3 Solid State Hard Drive

I've noticed a few 120GB SSD's for not much more (Kingston 120GB V+200 SSD - 2.5" SATA-III for example). Is the Intel drive much faster/more reliable?

Many thanks

Hi All.

Firstly, a big thank you for the help and information received thus far.

This is what I've purchased:

1 x MSI HD 6850 OC 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
1 x MSI Z77A-G43 Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
1 x Samsung SSD 830 2.5inch SATA III 6GBps 256GB Desktop Accessory Kit
1 x Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

I will be purchasing the processor soon (Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz) which only leaves one item remaining: the case.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-018-XG has been out of stock for a while now. Any thoughts on an alternative case?

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-019-BX&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=1850 perhaps?

Many thanks

That is very tempting for the price and receives a lot of good reviews, although I prefer the BitFenix aesthetically. Is the Zalman a better case (excluding whats included)?

Many thanks

Edit. Going for the Zalman; 32 mostly 5* reviews has persuaded me.

shop around for a 120gb ssd , thats a nice lil gaming system.

use ur hdd from your old system till you can afford a 240gb ssd and just use that as your only harddrive (unless you download a lot)

POWERSUPPLY ANWER : if your case has vents under the powersupply let it blown down n out of case , if it dont i would let it blow up into your case.

if you've got a back outtake fan and top exhaust it wont get too hot inside or even a fan on your side case to suck hot air away from psu/g card.
