Hi all
I'm trying to help a friend choose components for a brand new build. He has never built a PC before and I built one way back when GTX 980 was the card to have.
He has already bought some components and has asked me to help with the rest, naturally I told him I would come here for advice.
He has already purchased:
Case: Corsair Crystal 680x RGB ATX Mid Tower
MB: ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Pro wifi ATX AM4
Video Card: Gigabyte Geforce RTX 3070Ti 8 GB AORUS Master
Power Supply: Corsair RMx 1000W 80+ Gold Fully Modular

What I have recommended (but told him not to buy yet):
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6 Core
Cooler: NZXT Kraken Z63 280mm
Memory: (He is insistant on 32GB) Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32 GB (2x16) DDR4-3200 CL16
Storage: Corsair MP600 Force Series Gen 4 1TB M.2-2280 NVME SSD

*He only plays WOW and streams movies and isnt too worried about anything over kill.
If anyone is able to look over these parts and please advise where necessary. I would hate to recommend something that will cost him money and bottleneck his system.
All advice is welcome, even advice on where he might have made incompatible purchases already.
Kind regards, and thankyou
(as you probably worked out, he likes the RGB effect)

I'd go for a cheaper PCIe gen 3.0 nvme like the WD blue SN550, some 3600mhz ram, a cheaper cooler like the arctic freezer 280mm then either a 5600X or a 5800X if he plans to keep the system for a long time as WoW will benefit from the faster single core performance of the 5000 series CPUs.

Performance for money train already left the station at wrong tracks and head on crashed at full speed into freight train.

Ridiculously Grossly Bloated and brand overpriced case hogged serious amount of money, which could have been used to actually improve performance/longevity.
There would have been RGB cases at third the price.

That overshooting PSU was some wasted money.

B550 board would have also been more than sufficient for average gamer.
Besides lacking active chipset cooler for Asus marketroids to screw up.
(Asus X570 boards have basically break down timer in chipset fan)
And B450 board would have been the most sensible base for such outdated CPU.,

While Intel hasn't advanced in years, AMD pushes forward and that 2019's CPU is outdated and second rate performance wise.

For very reasonable max power draw of basic core count Ryzens even below £30 cooler would be enough.
Jonsbo CR-1000 GT 120mm ARGB CPU Cooler - Black= £24.95
Below £50 already gives very godo coolers.
Scythe SCMG-5100TUF Mugen 5 TUF RGB CPU Cooler With PWM Fan - 120mm= £49.99
Though Intel optimized convex base might have issues with Ryzen's heatspreader depending on particular individual.

For that use 16GB would be plenty
Crucial Ballistix RGB 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-28800C16 3600MHz Dual Channel Kit= £98.99

And zero sense to spend money into PCIe v4 drive for such basic use.

For some reason I'm suspecting also monitor is substandard for aimed wastage of money into no performance/gaming experience improvement...

Needlessly sassy and harsh considering OP literally stated

He isnt too worried about anything over kill.

I think OP is worried about advising to buy parts which will not sufficiently support the 3070Ti, and thus a waste of money. NOT spending a lot on the machine.

With the value of these parts purchased already it would be silly to buy a 3600. Get a 5800x, or at the absolute minimum a 5600x.

He's dead set on the RAM so it doesn't really matter, 32GB of anything at least 3200Mhz then. CPU cooler is personal preference. PCI4 drive is not a problem, will cost a bit more and just ensure the PC lasts a longer time.

The 3600 WILL be a bottleneck so don't buy that. And I also hope this is being paired with at least a 1440p 144hz monitor.

Like others have said do not get a 3600x, get either a 5600x or 5800x. All the other components are overkill for his use but they will last a good period of time and will be a pleasure to use in that time.

The PSU is overkill for sure but it will most likely be usuable in his next PC and maybe even the one after that.

Looks like he loves a bit of Corsair and thats OK because their products do come with good instructions. I hope he enjoys building his first PC.
