Hi

Yesterday I completed my first ever full build with the following specs. To my delight the PC switched on with no beeps or problems as far as i can see.

Q9550
ATI 4850
4gig Corsair
Asus Pq5 Pro
Windows x64 Bit

As I am still an amateur when it comes to new build i would appreciate it if anyone could answer the following questions for me.

1. Are there any BIOS setting that should be changed to optimise performance? I do not want to overclock anything, I just want to make sure everything is configured optimally.

2. Are there any diagnostics i should be running from windows or the bios to check everything is installed properly?

Thanks for reading.

p.s. Sorry for the wall of text crits.

make sure the memory timings/voltage are set to the specifications as its likely they aren;t correct on auto. Check in device manager for anything showing any errors, mainly due to lacking drivers. You can either run things like 3d mark and prime 95 to test stability but if your not overclocking, you could just play some games or w/e and as long as it doesn't crash then it means its all ok.

Unless you're planning on Oc-ing the BIOS is generally ok for everything.

You can look at Device Manager to check all your drivers are installed. And if you havent done so already go to your chipset manufacture and your graphics card manufacture and get the latest drivers, never good to use the out of box ones or the windows built in ones.

Thanks for the quick replys guys.

If i were to decide to OC as it dose seem quite and interesting chalenge, what type of checks (in the bios) would i have to do then?

hope this is not to much of a vague question.
