Hi All

My eldest needs a new PC - however, I too have been thinking I want to upgrade my own Rig. So rather than spending a £1000 on a decent system for my son, I thought why not treat myself - and pass on my old system as the spec is still pretty good.

Currently I have;

3090FE
AMD 5900X
32GB DDR4 Ram
Gigabyte B550 VISION D-P (AMD AM4) B550 ATX Motherboard
Corsair Force MP510 series 1920GB NVMe PCIe M.2 Solid State Drive
850W PSU

Thoughts on my old system for current gen games? Is the CPU a bottleneck?

---

I am looking at a 5080 GPU and the AM5 chipset with an X3D cpu, AIO cooler. For this, I am hoping to keep under £2000 - just the system, no monitor etc needed. Your recommendations would be greatly appreciated as I have not kept up to date with current tech specs. Primary use is for gaming, potentially some streaming too. I hope I have covered everything???

I did the same, he wanted a 5080, but I banked most of the that £1k and got myself a 9800 upgrage and gave him my 4090 instead, gotta love making them computer happy though eh!? mine has, in his own words a PC that he could only dream of, but hey, he lives with me now, so it feels great to treat him

wouldn't worry about it tbh, if you haven't noticed anything wrong while actually using the system, then there is nothing wrong, it's easy to overthink things, even if there is a bottleneck, I bet the cpu is running in the high 90s' still

Thank you for the suggestion - I think I want to tweek the build for 64gb RAM and maybe an AIO water cooler. Budget is an issue though, so I was thinking that if I hold off on the GPU for now - so replace everything expect my 3090. then run with this until the new Nvidia super cards arrive? Any problems with this that I am not thinking about? I can then set my kid up with my old parts and he will have to make do with the 5700xt he has for now???

You could.

The only thing I'd ask is why you need 64gb of ram right now. Ram prices have doubled in the last couple of months so if you don't actually need 64gb I'd just stick with 32gb for now.

That case supports an AIO so that's not an issue.
The preferred mounting position is normally at the top of the case. The case I linked supports a 240/280mm AIO at the top. Id personally stick to 240mm for best compatibility.
Alternatively if you want a 360mm AIO you'd have to pick another case.
The 9800x3d runs fine with a 240mm cooler.

The 3090 is fine to soldier on a bit longer. Comparatively it's the equivalent of a 5070 without the rtx performance.
