Hey All,

I have the following arriving tomorrow to upgrade from my current e6400 rig...

*OVERCLOCKED* Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz @ 4.00GHz Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Intel X58 Motherboard Patriot Viper 6GB DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz DDR3 Bundle + World in Conflict Game

XFX ATI Radeon HD 4890 XT 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (Includes Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X.)

Corsair HX 750W ATX Modular SLI Compliant Power Supply (CMPSU-750HXUK)

Antec 902 Nine Hundred Two Ultimate Gaming Case - Black

2x Samsung 64GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive

2x Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache

LG GH22NS30 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black)

Will be using with My Dell 2407 Monitor :)

So... where to begin; I am downloading the Windows 7 RC at the moment to install as my operating system and will be "planning" to RAID0 the Samsung SSD drives as my OS Drive (using this link: Click )

Quite looking forward to the build, been 2 or so years since my last - just hoping I can get a long with the RAID configuration ok...

Anyone got suggestions on Windows 7 must have's, best tools for monitoring temps, etc... and testing the overclock (i know this would have been done by OcUK; but i would like to play too!)

For testing the clock you can use:

  • Prime95
  • IBT - be careful with this one it needs to be set up correctly with the i7
  • Orthos
  • Everest
  • memtest
  • and the others i've probably forgotten to mention.

I personally use prime 95 and memtest - if it passes hours of testing of each i'm usually happy.

For monitoring temps i use: Real temp, Core temp and HWmonitor - be sure to download the 64bit versions.

EDIT: This sticky provides the links to the all of the above apps (and more) - link. It should save you a lot of searching.

Good luck with it.

ive seen people using 16 threads, does it really matter if you use 16 orr auto?

Yeah I've seen 16 and auto, don't think it matters.

IBT just gives you a good indication whether or not its stable short term and then prime after.
