Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can give me a bit of help,

I have wanted to get into to photography for a while now and today went to ******** on the way home from work and purchased a Canon 400D EF-S 18-55 lens.

However i did not get any flash memory with it as it was dear in *******, anywhere i can get it cheaper?

Also what kind of quality can i expect from this camera i have never used anything like this before, any tips?

Thanks in advance

Pete

Welcome to the world of SLR (or dare I say real) photography. My first advice would be to get a fast Lexar or Sandisk card.

Next, I'd spend just a minimal amount of time on the automatic and preset modes of the camera. Maybe for some test shots, but try to get used to manual mode as soon as possible. You will get the best results when you master this mode. Apart from a few other things, it is this extra control over the camera that sets an SLR apart from a point and shoot camera.

Of course, to be able to understand these controls, you should read up on the principles of photography. There are many references on the web. Look out to understand terms such as: Shutter speed, aperture and ISO, and how those three affect how much or how little you expose your image.

Also how aperture affects 'depth of field', how ISO affects image noise/grain and how shutter speeds affect movement and camera shake.

I could go on and write an essay but its all written out there and better than I could explain :)

Enjoy!

I have a 400d also and am getting used to it I have some pics on my facebook thingy form the edinburgh tattoo oh and dont buy sandisk cf off ebay I just got a dodgey card

If you search www.kelkoo.co.uk you can find them. I just bought 2 2gb sandisc cards for £20 (approx, I can't remember exact price) from a well known photography supplier, but as it's a competitor to OC I can't post a link for you.

I'm pretty sure posting kelkoo is not breaking rules as it's a search engine :)

I've got an EOS 400D, with kit lens. check out my site (still under construction):

www.squiddy.co.uk

for some examples of what this cam has done for me.

word of advise. try your very hardest to not take a photo with shutter speeds slower than 1/60th of a second, unless you're braced against a wall or something.
