Your money and fully respect your choice of mota although I'm not convinced on the looks, people say the same about the Alfa so there you go!

The looks are indeed personal, I for one would not want your car but love the looks of slackworth's new motor.

Just down to personal preference, although Midget > all.

£650 a month for a 200k mortgage? (10% depo on a 220k house)

Where do I sign!?

A 200k mortgage will be more like £1100 a month

He's right Gibbo, U R having a laugh - welcome to the real world mate.

Currently looking to buy in Stafford:

£139,000 House (10% Deposit down) =£665 Per month.

By the way, thats excluding the £2K+ in surveys, solicitors fees, PLUS estate agents fees, stamp duty, time off work to move, removal/ van hire costs etc, etc, etc.

You can't really make comments like this if u still live with parents mate.... you're £80,000 out on the house price at that repayment rate and that £60K to £80 difference could buy a terraced house (2 bedroom) in stoke for that!!! :D

With still £1000-£1500 per month income left spare for further bills and house improvements for car modifications.

ROFL...there won't be much left from that. U planning on eating? :D

Enjoy it while you can.

But thats all you know - to deride someone as sad becuase they don't share the same sense of priorities as you is very silly. I'd fully agree with you if we are talking people in their 30's and 40's, but 20's?

Nothing wrong with enjoying life and experiencing a few years of having money to spend on nice things before buckling down, entering the real world and setting up a place of your own. You've got the rest of your life to pay electric bills, wonder about council tax and arrange mortgages.
You could look at it this way, you can turn the 20k into 200k and then spend the rest of your live driving a Gallardo.

I'm not really going to get into the whole house moving thing as I have my own opinions and so do others. I pay my way at home plus also have a large fuel bill. If I was to move closer to OcUK, I could probably quite happily afford the house as both my insurance and fuel costs would drop but that's for the future.

I'm young and want to have some fun at the end of the day and having my shiny motor at a young age is part of this. Unless something bad happens, I've got plenty of time to do the whole settling down into a house thing in a few years time.

lol, turn £20k into £200k - are you planning on hiring a tank to drive through a bank safe or something?

Lets put this whole debate into context:

Personal loan/Car Finance for a £20,000 car = £300 a month

Mortgage for a small, terraced house in the middle of stoke = £500 a month

You are comparing a 'flash' car to buying a house when there is actually a massive price difference.

Can't fault you mate - I did exactly the same. All I'm saying in the post above is in your 20's you shouldn't be worrying about mortgages and houses and you should be spending on cars etc. Posting unsubstantiated figures relating to things based on little, or no, research, knowledge or experience (Gibbo's Post) is daft.

Your new motor is lovely by the way! :D

P.S.

After my last go in your Audi, I'm very interested to see just how quick it is. Looking at it today, its a bloody big engine for the size of the car - bet it goes like a stabbed rat!!??! lol

Back on topic, what BMW colour is that? I've just ordered a car in Montego Blue and it looks like the same colour as yours, hence the question.

I made an error in my calculations, my research has been done but I was just looking at interest only payments, something I would not do. My hands are up, I made a mistake!

Speaking to Phil who has his own pad and lives by himself he has previously informed me of basically what it cost to own a place and live. Something that in my current financial state without sacrificing anything I currently have, basically the car I could indeed go for house right now with a value upto approx 180k, pay the mortgage, pay the bills, eat food, go to the pub and keep the Mustang. :)

However it is my decision to remain at home for the moment, I would preferre to get a house that is exactly what I want and one that I can afford without stretching myself financially. Buying a house now would mean a 20-25yr mortgage and no doubt something upto around 180k ish value and only putting an approx 10-20% deposit down. Wheras in a couple of years I shall be in a far better position to get something of higher value, have a shorter mortgage and possibly put down a larger deposit. :)

I am a planner, when I put my mind to something I do it and generally do it well and get it right. Just at the moment getting a house for me is not a priority, when it becomes one then I will take action and as always I will do very well for myself.

Fact is this is the motors forum, yet very recently it seems to have turned more into the house/mortgage advise forum.

It does indeed go very well! The thing only weighs circa 1375kg, has 265BHP which is approx 180BHP per tonne. Plus been RWD it has far less drivetrain loss over a 4WD vehicle so in comparison to the Audi it rapes it. :D

Oh my, I spot a trend.

Someone buys a nice car.
Another person spots they are young.
Que "congrats, doing well for your age!" or "how do you manage to afford that?"
Person admits they are living at home, with no intention to move out.
Dirtydog comes in with his "you are clearly living above your station in life" post.
Que angry Fox "moving out is for losers"
A few people mention the benefits of living out.
Que gibbo mentioning that he has the means of moving out if he wants and still keep everything he has, but still decides to stay put.
Que support for living at home.
Jamoor comes in with a few points he learnt today in his business studies class.
Rince and repeat a few times.
Thread slowly goes back to topic.

Did I miss anything?

Oh maybe Simon's sly remarks here and there:D

I do know something about their circumstances; I know their age and that they can afford to spend a big wedge of cash on a car :D

I think you're getting confused ;) If you can afford to buy an expensive car, you can afford to either move out and rent, or to save up a large amount of money while with parents, to put towards buying a house of your own in future. The more you save now, the better place you can get later.

When did I say everyone should get a mortgage? Obviously if you can't afford that then you can't do. I didn't even say everyone should move out, even well into their 20s if they can't afford it. People who CAN afford it however, should surely either move out and rent, or stay put and save up for when they do move out. They will wish they had done that, in future, trust me on that.

Anyway.... back on topic huh :o
