New Car Arrival

I have the house to myself most days/nights, I do whatever I want whenever I want. No point in moving out, I can use my car to seduce a shallow girl who has one already :D

(joke btw...)

You can bring back all your mates after footy on a week night for beers then... :p

We normally go to the pub like most people, but yea I probably could :D I'd just send the old dear out somewhere if I needed the house. The beauty of having 2 sisters that live so close is that she has somewhere to go if I need the house.

I guess I'm just lucky to have such a good relationship with my mum!

Living at home and uni is wrong in my eyes. So dont have as much fun :D I have best of both worlds. Quick enough car + Live away from parents at uni. Rocking.

But you are very lucky, there is no way many people could afford to buy and run a GTi-6 *and* live away from home whilst at Uni.

Everyone has different circumstances, for some, there is simply no way they could have the same experience and the same amount of fun at Uni if they lived at home. For these people, moving out is important. But for others, it's possible, so why not? Like I said, I didn't miss out last year and had the added bonus of not having to max my overdraft out.

I'm not going to criticise people who chose to move out - it's their choice and if thats what they think is best, good luck to them. So why therefore is it fair to criticise those who chose the opposite?

Next year will be even better 'cos my GF is renting a self contained flat in a student accomodation thingy :D Best of both worlds ;)

But everyones situation at home is different which is why you can't really judge people based on your own experiences. I've certainly not missed out and last year at Uni (Placement atm) had absolutely no issues with coming home at 3am every other night :p

The difference here is that those who chose to stay at home until they feel the time is right are not going around slagging off those who moved out, merely saying that they don't understand the fuss. Whereas those who did move out seem intent on taking the mick out of everyone who has yet to do so, without really know the individuals circumstances :)

And remember, the point only ever comes up on this forum when someone decides to have a pop at somebody who bought a car rather than rental on a flat..

Fox, there is absolutely no comparison with living at home with little restriction and living out at uni with your friends.

I know, you keep ramming that down my throat even though it's rarely relevant to the points I've made.

Two of my friends would strongly disagree with you, one was glad to move back home, the other is somewhat depressed becuase she doesn't have the option.

Living away is a lottery at times and the experience depends on the people you share with. Living at home is a known quantity.

I have to agree with fox even though i feel great that i left home at 20 and have since owned my own house. It is great having my own place. The current house is co-owned with my gf which would not be possible without her share of the mortgage. I would live in a poor area if i had to pay for a house by myself. It only really works cause we share everything on two incomes. We both have newish cars (hers is brand new) and live a nice social life.

It aint for everyone. Thats as simple as it can be put.

Thats getting a little off the topic though (well the off topic topic that is :o )

Its not really about whether you live at home or not, its more about living at home and spending house deposit sized amounts on a car.

I think what a lot of people don't understand is why if you don't want to move out yet you wouldn't just bung it in a high interest account rather than have it burn a hole in your pocket and put it in a depreciating asset such as a car.

Personally I couldn't give a stuff :p your money, your life, your choice IMO.

Not entirely sure Gibbo, but the M interior only relates to the steering wheel, gearknob and door sill strips.

Not seats themselves.

Adam's car is a 130i SE isn't it?

Unless he's specified different seats he should have the normal SE spec type seats.

*could be wrong though* ;) it has happened once or twice :p

Not got the M Interior but have got the Sports seats out of the M Sport. :) Not really bothered about the other 3 bits and can always retrofit them at the end of the day. :)

Bingo.

I feel the same up to a point, but I also feel bad watching other people make the same mistakes I did, knowing that they will come to regret it in future. Oh well.

No, not bingo, becuase its not just Slackworth you've posted this about, you said the same of me and the money I paid for my car is nowhere near a half useful house deposit.
Doesn't that prove my point? ;)

(btw - it was suggested that this discussion be continued in the GD thread which was linked to above...)
