New Car: Golf GTI MrkV

1. Change the stereo for the RNS510 touch-screen
2. Get rid of those ugly bright red rear lights for the R32/Ed30 darker ones.
3. Get the panels colour-coded
4. Upgrade to 18" Monza in the diamond polished finish
5. Paint the front VW badge matt black

Very nice :)

Can I steal your engine? :D

No :D

Anyone that tells you a remap won't increase the risk of something breaking is telling fibs and anyone that applies some random percentage figure as to the extra wear and tear should really be doing the lottery tonight with those kind of prediction skills.

Fact is that you will be putting more strain on the drive train, engine and turbo.

At the end of the day you pay your money and take your choice. See how it feels after 6 months and decide what it is you are after :)

As long as there are no major known risks other than the obvious then I might think about it, but I'm in no rush.

Did the dealer give you any warranty with it?

Yep, but only 6 months unfortunately.

Very nice car OP and head over to http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/ if you need any help/advice/ideas. :)

I actually like the check seats, a mate of mine has a 30th Anniversary with the tartan style seats, looks great

Couldn't disagree more, can't stand those tartan style seats. The leather is nice and the Pirelli tyre thread seats are also rather good and a bit different. ;)

2. If you go with the map, get a new piston type DV, about £45

This is the thing that let go in mine after the remap. Got a new OEM one (modified from the ones originally fitted to our cars) and everything is good so far.

Would be interested to know who managed to refurb those wheels. If they are 18"s they are diamond cut and everywhere I have asked they have refused to touch them!

I would also call your nearest VW dealer as last week they issued a "product enhancement" on the coil packs fitted to every TFSI engine from 04 to early 07. If you have the original coil packs they will all be replaced free of charge with the latest revision.

Thanks for that will give them a call tomorrow!! :)

I like that and I really like the wheels on the Mk V. It's about 195 or 197bhp stock, isn't it? What does the remap take the car to?

197 bhp. Stage 1 Revo/Jabba Sport remap takes it to ~235-240 bhp. Some left the factory with ~220 bhp :-)

The coil pack issue doesn't seem listed with VOSA. Nor does anyone in the UK seem to know if it affects our GTis!

Where did you get your information from Dangerous - thanks!

It classified as a non-dangerous produce enhancement, not a normal recall.

So no active contact, just checking on your next service.

Just called VW! Apparently the coils are on back order! My car also needs an ECU recall, so I need to call Jabba and see how that will affect my remap!

EDIT - Just spoke to Jabba, suggested I don't get the ECU flashed by VW. Anyone have any idea what the ECU update is?
