Back end of last week I picked up this MX-5 Berkeley, needs a proper clean but I thought I'd share all the same:

Only 400 of these made and were the last of the mk1 models in this country, so this means my car was one of last 25 mk1's sold here.

The 2 former owners were both enthusiasts from mx5oc.co.uk, so as you'd imagine it runs fine and has a stack of receipts including all old MOT's and tax discs. These receipts also include some choice mods; lowering springs, mk2 1.8iS wheels, Jackson Racing Cold Air Intake and Custom SS Powerflow Exhaust which is subtle when pootling but once revved sounds a lot more purposeful. Goodyear Eagles with plenty of tread and the roof is fine too with no leaks.

Bad points, just the bodywork really with a few little scrapes and scratches which doesn't bother me, especially considering age and price.

Let me know what you think :)

Very nice, especially the rarity aspect. Not so sure about that lower grille mind you.

Congrats :)

Lose the grille, only way that grille could look worse is if you swapped it for a set of those stupid fake teeth that Americans like to put in there (ok some badly fitted Ripspeed mesh would probably look worse too)

Other than that lovely car and an excellent choice of colour too.

lol @ the rarity, let's just remember that Mazda did a special edition every 3 minutes 22 seconds. Every bloody MX5 on the market is a "special edition".

Anyway, back to topic - great car, lots of fun, won't kill you.

I had a grill on mine, a Lockwood one - looked really good.

I dont have a problem with grills, I had one on mine. I have a problem with the cutaway bits of the grill which say "MX5" or what ever. That looks shocking. However, if you are happy with it then don't listen me or anyone else because it is your car.

There's nothing wrong with grilles per se, there is however a lot wrong with that particular grille.

Very nice!

Mind if I ask how much?

A shade under £2000, 80k miles on the clock and FSH.

Can't believe how much attention the grill is getting lol, not like I've bought it and fitted it. I'll ask the previous owner if they still have the grill. If not, anyone know the best place to find a replacement?
