Im after something to replace my every soo annoying Punto. Theres such a wide variety of cars to choose from, so i want your advice o which one(s) will be suitable.

Im after something fast and nimble to chuck round country roads, and enough get up and go on the motorways.

What would you guys recommend?

Oo oh, forgot the important bits.

Ive got £3000 to spend on the car. Anything between insurance group 1 and 14 are ok for me. I dont really have preference on the engine tbh.

You'll get a VTR in some moderate condition and you could save some money for breathing mods or insurance deposit.

They're a "raw" car, being quite basic but they're ideal for a chuckable b-road car to upgrade from a Punto.

But it depends on your foot size. I don't have large feet, and don't like driving my sister's 106 (same basic size and pedal position as a saxo...both being French and all). I guess you'd get used to it, but it just wasn't for me.

I've got size 10.5 / 11 feet and didn't really have that much of a problem in the saxo, yes its not great but nor is it so bad your going to crash the second you set off ;)

Fiesta Zetec S Mk5.... should pick up a nice one up country for that money. insurance is cheaper than your typical french equilivant aswell. Plus theyre nicer :p :D

Im in the same boat mate, im thinking about getting a Toyota Celica GT, pretty nice one could be bought for around the 3k mark.

Ok cool. Just to throw another car into the mix :p

So between a golf, focus, and 106/saxo. Which of these will have the best performance to handling combination?

For the driving you described... 106/Saxo.

Suprised it hasn't been said yet, 205 GTi either a 1.6 or a 1.9, good fun on twisties, adequate for the motorway, and you can pick them up in reasonable condition for ~1k.
