New Car Time - 325i Sport?

not too bad then. Probably around £400 a year for servicing for me then as i'll be doing about 20k a year. Tyres will probably be interesting, especially as its on 18's. :)

Small loan from northern rock as well at just 5.9% should cover most of it as well. Pay that off in 2 years and then time to upgrade again :D

Cheers all

Hi there

325i/525i's are great cars. :)

I've got a 10yr old one with 205,000 on the clock. 192BHP, not sure how many of those horses are left on mine but it pulls strong in all gears with no flat spots. Good engine and reliable if maintained. :)

Just to add my 2 pence, my 525i pulled great, and still would if i had not pulled it to bits to replace the head gasket :p

190k when it went, it will be back on the road at some point though. Great Engines :D

Different engine though guys, your 525i's are M50's whereas the 325i uses a later Dual VANOS M54.

I do hope it's as reliable as yours though!

I see, but its a relative of the M52 which is a relative of the M50 :p

However, it would seem there are no real reliability issues!!

The M54 is the most reliable BMW engine ever built. Here's why:

* The camshaft chain drive and the V-belt drive are maintenance-free and designed for the life of the engine.
* Valve clearances are kept consistent throughout the entire running life of the engine by a self-adjusting hydraulic valve clearance mechanism. There is no need to adjust valve clearances, ever.
* There is no need to reset the clutch since it is self-adjusting.
* The air filters and spark plugs only have to be replaced after 100,000 km or 62,000 miles.
* The oil in the transmission and final drive is a lifetime filling not requiring any replacement.
* There is no need for any particular running-in service.
* The BMW Service Interval Indicator informs the driver of the remaining distance until the next oil change. You no longer have to change the oil after a fixed, rigid mileage.
* The engine is able to adjust automatically to all fuel grades between 87 and 98 octane.
* Anti-knock control automatically adjusts the engine's running conditions to the respective fuel grade and quality.
* Please note that the engine's maximum output is only achieved when running on 98 octane premium fuel.

Any ideas wheres best to get HPI checks done on this. Just rang the guy and its still there which is good.

Got the reg but i think i need the VIN number and MOT certificate number as well?

Ring the dealer that's serviced it last.

ok, basically when i talked to the guy he said that him and his dad have a sports car garage/dealership and the guy had part-exchanged it for another car. There was no service history that came with the car at the time so unfortunately we don't know what garage serviced it last.

BMW should have the details for it if its been serviced by a BMW garage but I can't find the number to check it out with them yet.

Telephone BMW customer information on 0800 325 600. Tell them you are looking to purchase a used BMW but would like to check how genuine the cars service history is. Ask if they would be kind enough to provide you with a list of Dealership Visits.

They'll do this - they will tell you when a car has visited a dealer, on what date, and which dealer. You can then call each dealer and find out what the car had done - if it was servicing, they'll tell you (And you can ask for the mileage at each point also) but the Data Protection Act prevents them telling you about specific repair work the owner paid for.

You can then use this information to work out the service history yourself.

done and got the list now. Good thing being that its only been serviced by 2 places, both authorized BMW garages. Even though they may not be services there dealership visits at least. Quite a regular schedule as well.

04/2006
02/2004
10/2003
04/2003
03/2003
10/2002
03/2002
09/2001

:)

Now ring the dealers in question and get mileages @ each visit and, if possible, which service was carried out.

Then bingo, one service history. They'll stamp your book if you get a replacement and take it to them as well.

Very nice cars, I also am glad I got the Saloon over the coupe... better for giving lifts and family things :p

I've only scanned the thread so far so forgive me if this has already been mentioned but dont forget a HPI check. If you are really worried you can get an AA or RAC inspection etc on it too.
