Well it's been a shade over two years since I got my Mondeo Ghia X 2.0 (petrol) and it's done me well but with the prices of petrol being sky high, getting 380 miles to a tank (£63 per week for me), the fact it costs £210 to tax per year and that it's starting to develop some "interesting" niggles means I'm looking for an alternative.

I do ~350 miles per week so the replacement needs to be comfortable, reliable and have very good fuel economy, all for the sum of £5k + whatever PX I can get from the Mondeo. So far I have been looking at:

Mondeo 2.0 Ghia/Titanium Diesel
Focus 2.0 Zetec Diesel (not as many toys or as comfortable as the above though...)
VW Passat 1.9 Diesel (not sure on what trim levels are available around £5k though)
2000/2001 Audi A4 1.9 TDi (I previously had a 1998 A4 TDi 115 SE which I loved)
2000/2001 Audi A4 1.9 TDi

I've also thought about getting either of these two, although I'm only toying with the idea of them at the moment:

Seat Ibiza 1.9 FR
Skoda Fabia vRS

Do you guys have any other suggestions around that price bracket? I've deliberately ruled out Vauxhall as I've hears some horror stories about their Diesel units!

Thanks :)

Can't go wrong with another Mondeo.

However, have you worked out the savings on fuel VS the cost to change car?

Honda Accord CDTi. Go drive one and see what you think. It would have been my choice if I'd wanted a manual.

Thanks for the suggestions so far chaps :)

Yeah, that was my thinking (in regards to another Mondeo) - it has been pretty reliable except it loves to eat suspension mounts for breakfast, the previous owner didn't really take it slowly over the speed bumps though so it could have been an underlying problem.

I've not worked out the fuel saving vs the cost of a new car as I would like a new car anyway, although it would be nice to work it out :)

Get the Toyota Prius

For £5k/£6k?
