new car what to get

I didn't have any problems reading the OP.

It's true that people post much worse, but tacking random unrelated things on to the end of a sentence isn't exactly being clear. This just isn't how sentences work:

Fun to drive, comfortable, got around a grand to play with.

I'll admit that I could have read it more carefully so I missed that, but who doesn't skim posts?

Focus is a good car. I bought one to sell and quite liked it.

However, for fun I would be looking at a Saxo VTR/S (depending on insurance)

For sensible/fun - 306 HDI Dturbo 3 door and lots of change.

Get a 2.0 Focus rather than the 1.6. 30% more power, and if you use all the Bell tricks it probably won't cost much more to insure, either. Get one with ESP and you won't crash it, either.

You'll get a noticeable dip in economy with a 2l Focus, I've managed 45 mpg over a tank in my 1.6 and averaged 40 mpg over 4500 miles. I test drove a 2.0 and 1.6 back to back and figured I'd rather have the cheapest to run out of two if I'm buying a low powered hatchback, you lose out on a bit of power for overtaking but I'm used to planning overtakes well given my history of driving low powered cars and the power difference isn't wildly noticeable.

/thread

Quite a few bombing around for under a grand.

Cheap insurance + great fun to drive :)

They like to rot, especially the sub 1k ones and the OP specified 'comfortable' :p

Elephant always seem to beat Bell for me.

Just about to renew my insurance, 24, 2 NCB - £710 + 5% cashback using Capital One credit card = £675.

Not bad!
Elephant/Admiral/Bell/anyotherAdmiralbrand is all much of a muchness. They all seem to price match each other, anyway.

I just renewed on the 535d for £900-odd. I have 3 named drivers and they know I got both a 3pt SP30 and a 6pt CD10 in 2007, and a claim in 2009. Maybe I got the better deal? :p
