NEW CD/DVD drive very slow at ripping and playing music

Ok basically got a SATA CD/DVD drive for my computer a month or so ago. When i try and play an audio cd its fine for 1 second then goes really slow and sluggish like sloooowwwww moootttiiioooon very very annoying.

I have reinstalled the drivers/tried to update and changed SATA slot on motherboard.

Any other ideas?

You sure its the dvd drive?
Was it fine before you got the new one?
Have you opened task manager and seen what the cpu/ram/hdd activity is like when this happens?
