New daily driver that will do the odd track day/Sunday blast...

but you know youll do a selection of bolt ons, quickly get to the limit of the turbo and then wish you had a bigger one

If you do that it's never ending though.

Then you'll want a better clutch, roll cage, injectors, afm, engine management and a remap, you'll need a new gearbox too.

Then you'll want to get a bigger engine (RB) for better power delivery, then you'll want a stroker kit, then you'll want a V8.

Before you know it you've spent 'Porsche money' on it. People sink thousands into them then end up breaking them for parts.

It wouldn't get that daft. If the standard turbo does beat part of 300bhp that would be fine surely! I'd be more interested in making it handle properly than an extra 50-100 bhp I can't use...

Just need to decide if m3 running costs are worth it over the 200. Going to look into parts prices as I won't be paying for labour as stated earlier.

My one managed 311bhp on standard turbo, but thats pretty much maximum. After that its trading off responsiveness for more power. Internal OK until 350-400 , same as gearbox.

200sx is the cheaper option, and cheaper to do 'properly', run and maintain but I would have preferred an E36 M3 for my track day car, just couldn't justify the extra costs ( to the wife!) involved, especially getting it up to scratch - as you say 'M' Tax on parts etc.

To be honest, anywhere around 300bhp is fine for day to day use. That'll be 0-60 in low 5s I think and it'll keep on going. I've heard of people sticking with other cars until 4th when the 200 pulls away, depends on a lot of factors obviously.

A lot of Nissan parts are hilariously priced, most people either buy second hand parts (gearboxes etc) or after-market parts because they are usually a lot cheaper. Then again, nothing much usually goes wrong unless people don't look after them.

Just been to look at a terrible E36.

needed 4 tyres. one rotten arch, and broken ignition barrel so wouldn't start.... (would have been useful to know all these things when I rang and asked about it). Last service was in 2007 30k miles ago...

It wasn't cheap either. 4995!! (at a dealer).

Oh dear!

Still need to have a go in a 200sx I think as I've never driven one...
