New fibre exchange list, now including FTTP!

Well, that's a bit of a disappointment. I was hoping that BT Infinity would give me another option for decent high speed broadband apart from Virgin. The availability checker is giving 31/3/11 as the availability date, but max download speed is <20Mb (less than my current Virgin 20Mb package):

BT Infinity
19.1Mb download
8.3Mb upload

That upload speed would be nice, but as pointed out by rexehuk above, Virgin are also increasing their upload speeds. Guess I may just have to bite the bullet and upgrade to Virgin XXL broadband (50Mb down / 5Mb up after the upstream improvement).

Hey,
Where did you get the detailed possible stats from?

Thanks

Those detailed possible stats are quite conservative, and will only really apply when lots of people are signed up to infinity on your cab. You'll actually probably see around 35Mb/s down when you sign up as an early adopter.

But anyway, if you're in a decent area for Virgin 50Mb, go with that.

Can't wait to find a job where I can move back to a city, I'm currently on a 5km line out from a 650 person Market 1 exchange. 3.5Mb down at best, and all the ADSL MAX services are more expensive and heavily capped than 21CN or LLU. My exchange doesn't even have a date for 21CN, never mind FTTC/P.
I wish BT would give me some option to get Fibre up here, If I could pay say £1000 for the install (running fibre over the telephone poles can't be that expensive compared to digging up the roads/pavements in town, that's how Japan deployed most of their network) and then split the monthly cost by being contended at the exchange (I don't need the dedicated bandwidth of a leased line) I'd be on it in a heartbeat.

Just got an email and it says BT Infinity is available in my area. Already said it was in the checkers, but still doesn't say its enabled on Samknows. Oh well!

I have a question. When BT says it's enabling an exchange for FTTC, does that mean it's enabling every cabinet/property served by that exchange?

Reason I ask is that BT's online checker shows some houses in my road as getting Infinity in December, but not mine. I'm gonna be pretty peeved if houses 300 metres away get fibre whilst I'm stuck with 3Mb ADSL. What's more strange is that the houses 'getting' it are the ones physically furthest from the exchange.

Samknows :

However, there is another service on your phone line (e.g. ADSL, LLU, DACS, etc) that would prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection.
The following services are available in your location:

BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale WBC (21CN)
BT Wholesale SDSL
BT FTTC
AOL LLU
O2 / Be LLU
Bulldog LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
Pipex LLU
Tiscali LLU
Orange LLU (Formerly Wanadoo)

BT : You can get LLU.
