new focus st

Thinking of one of these myself all the reviews are glowing. I think with the improved economy and less boy racer styling they will have a wider appeal than the old ST. I will be interested to hear back from your test drive OP.

The Estate version does look good, makes the back end look more complete. It's also very mondeo-esque from some angles (not a bad thing).

It's disappointing that if you don't get the ST3 you don't get xenons and you get crappy reflector headlights. Even the fiesta which has no xenon option comes with projectors on the higher trims and costs almost half as much as the new focus st. All cars should have projectors these days.

Because it's a more modern car with a more nicely built interior, a better standard specification, more day to day usability, etc etc. It hasn't got the outright pace or handling of an RS but it's got more than enought to still be pretty satisfying to drive.

I'd feel far less like I'd wasted £20k if I had a new ST instead of a 2-3 year old Mk2 Focus RS..

Perhaps, but the RS would likely work out the cheaper of the two over say a 2 year ownership period due to the extra depreciation of the ST down to it being new.

I think i'd prefer the drama of the RS, and i also prefer the old shape, but the new car looks good too & with 250hp it should be plenty quick too

Be interesting to know exactly how this compares speed wise to the older ST. 0-60 doesn't seem all that different and the Mk.2 is well known for mid-range grunt so I do wonder...

Seen thread title and come in to say i would rather buy a MK2 RS, but i see a few have beat me to it.

I can only echo those who would rather have a mk2 FRS! Objectively the new ST makes more sense, more toys, more modern, better economy, more practical....but the RS is more characterful, has much more road presence, and just seems more special.

The 5 pot sound will be missed too but apparently the 2.0 ecoboost sounds pretty good in ST guise as well (yes there is some deliberate engineering to pipe sound into the cabin but the old ST and RS had bits to tune the sound entering the cabin as well...).

You could spend quite a bit of cash :p

Now go and spec up a Golf GTi with the same level of equipment ;)

Then consider the Focus is much quicker and 40bhp up :)

I was 'offered' an 18 month old Golf GTi (about 4 months ago) with similar spec to what you've added to the Focus ST for £28k!

Looks wise the new ST is growing on me. I will never accept it due the rear, it's pretty awful, and the centre exhaust is just wrong. The only thing that bugs me, is the lower tax band and the increased economy. Yet just as quick as my MK2 ST.

I still prefer my ST. The new ST doesn't come in 3 door, and is less of a drivers car, the focus has always been renowned for it's driving experience and handling. This is a backwards step for me. Too much American influence. The interior at glance does seem to be a lot nicer than my ST however.

Also personally stuff this and get a m135i
Its RWD
Its a 3 litre twin turbo
320hp
4 pot brakes
Loads of kit.
only 2.5k more than a st3
BMW vs Ford..
have I made my point yet

You sure about that? Specifying one on the website is £31k and I only added metallic paint

Now it's been a while since I had a maths lesson but that's £6k more than the top spec ST! £10k more than the entry level ST

the top spec st is 26.5
26.5 plus 2.5
is 29k
I didnt realise it was a little more than that but the point is still there ( particularly when youn see the pictures of specced st's above).
They arent exactly horses for courses are they. There are fundemental differences that make the bmw more "worth" the money other than brand

If I had £30K for a hot hatch i'd have the M135i too. ;)

Same here.

Sitting in the sun in my back garden at the moment so havnt checked, but I reckon despite the BMW's superior performance that fuel economy and c02 isn't compromised.

The BMW will hold its value a lot better too.

But then if I wanted an M135i, i'd not spend £30K on one - i'd wait 12-18 months and then make my move on a used one.

Same goes for the focus too, surely. It would have probably depreciated more too, making it better value.

Comparing old against new is kinda pointless.

But you can't have a BMW without Nav (according to Fox) so that makes the 1 series £33k. £6k more than the top spec ST.

Not really comparable

Popped into Dagenham Ford in Edgeware today, looked at the new B-max and a ST2. Both cars look pretty nice, just need to work out how sensible I want to be. The set up for the driver in the ST is particularly nice, although some might find it a bit claustrophobic.
