New Focus Very Poor MPG

Hi got a 2013 1.6 TDCi Econetic Ford Focus. Done just over 2000 miles and the MPG is sitting at 48.4 I do 80% motorways and always steady with my right foot.

Do modern cars need running in? Upon various sites these are meant to give good MPG but so far I expected much more or am I been deluded by manufactures claims?

Real time MPG at 70MPH in 6th shows around 76+ anything up a hill and it drops into the 30/40s guess the 20% or so town driving I do hampers the average. Just would have thought it would be better. Guess been only a 1.6 you need to give it more then the usual 2.0 Diesel types. Just expected a bit more :/ Has start stop too so I am not sure if this helps much?

Haha!!!!

Town driving and the like. I had it off but felt it was there for a reason to be on. Quite strange really, got to admit the sound proofing is amazing not sure because its only a small lump but its a very un diesel type clatter. Feels very refined come a long way since the pug 306 td I used to have lol!!!

Probably needs more miles on the clock then hopefully. 48 is ok but would have thought it would be better mid 50s id be happy with when I get it to 10k.

Stop start is very useful I know the car when idle with stop start off burns next to no fuel but its a good feeling with it on no fuel does! Just can be a bit strange people look at you and they think ha he has stalled the thing lol!!!

It is a load of rubbish. Tv ads are quick to get banned foe been misleading these MPG tests should be too if you get nothing remotely close to the book figures.

I agree but was hoping 50+ rising to 55 maybe 60 but I guess reading this thread I will never see the book figure

It seems very accurate from the miles I am getting out of a full tank, it is rising .1 every so many miles so I hope it gets better

tbh 48 I am happy with.

Can you even map these engines? Probably wont gain much.

Just short of 7k now and sitting at 51.7

The MPG does get better with time. The engine is ok, not felt like it needs more power. Only sits on the motorway I dont use it to race at lights. It does the job and a very good one at that. Very good sound proofing and a nice interior makes journeys ok
