New Golf Gti - Naff engine / cockpit sound

So I don't care for fake noise but it has me thinking, what is the difference really between faked noise and the exhaust notes from an exhaust that has been deliberately engineered to make noise.

At the end of the day both are manufactured and add zero other benefits.

The 100% fake, digital ones which come through the speakers sound like an N64 game.

They don't have the depth of real exhaust or intake sound. It's really hard to produce engine sounds digitally, I've never heard a good example.
