I want a new graphics card as my hd3650 has done its job well of getting me through a period till i could be bothered to get a new gpu. I have £150 to spend and have a XFX GTX 260 in mind (mainly because of looks!) but I want the best for me money! Any help please!

1+ed

if you don't care about DX11 which you do, could have a HD4890

but why would you do that? okay the HD5770 is not near the speed of HD4890

Thanks I realise looks don't make a good card!! The reso i'm lookin at are 2048 x 1152, i play games like CSS, COD Modern Warfare and GTA SA if this helps.

if you are after performance and looks, the ati 4890 is a good contender, but it depends if you would prefer nvidia or ati. the nvidia cards nearly always play games like far cry 2 and crysis far better than ati cards, but most other games the 4890 should beat the gtx 260.

HD4890 mostly beats the GTX260, its all over if not equal to the GTX275, in fact I think those two are about the same, won just as much as each other

another vote for the 4890 here, me and my friend have pretty much the same system except he has a 275 and we're pretty much the same performance wise, i win in some games he wins in others, so i'm pretty happy considering i paid £120 for my card and he paid £180 for his ;)

Goes a bit like this I think.

HD4890 = GTX275
HD4870 1GB = GTX260-216
HD4870 = GTX260 = HD5770

So the 5770 would be a bit slower than a 4890, but would have Dx11 support, run cooler and quieter, and use less power.

I'd take it for that reason as it's certainly no slouch of a card, and you can always add another a few months down the line to bring the performance up to HD5870 levels. :)

At this stage I think you have to go for a 5770.
4890's have been going for £80 second hand in the members market so if you get a 4890 now will be worth less than half the price you pay for it now in a short while.
If it were my money I would get a 5770 it's going to hold it's value far longer than a 4890/gtx260 because there will always be high demand for cross firing them because of the low power draws.

The alternative is pick up a gtx 260 / 4890 in the members market wouldn't pay over £90 for one though seeing as plenty have gone for £80.

that man has a point.

To run HD4890 you need more juice from power supply but if you go with HD5770 which means less juice require from power supply and less heat as well.

at the res you want to play games i would reccomend the 4890 i play at 1920x1080 and my 4870x2 feels nice and at home at this rez games run nice esp my fav game atm dragon age :) and cod mw2 deffo get the 4890.

a single 5770 would prob strugle a lot at this res with AA and AF on
