New graphics card

Hi everyone,

My graphics card died recently (I had 9800GTX+) I want to buy a new videocard with the budget of up to £250 pounds.

My spec:
8G ram
Quad core CPU (something good can't remember exactly)
800V power supply

PC mainly used for gaming.

What would you guys recommend?

Actually if you can get two 4890s in crossfire on your budget (and your motherboard) they do better than a 5870 and still cost less.

If he doesn't mind sacrificing DirectX 11 support that is...

Most people would go for 5850 instead of 5870 though, as it is better 'bang for bucks'.

Just under £250 - however it's currently out of stock...

If you can't wait there are other manufacturers however, I chose XFX because they are reasonably reputable.

Nice picks, however I am concerned about overclocking. Isn't it reducing graphicks card life significanlty? I think that's what happened to my old card.

Could you explain a bit more about the "problem" I am not so familiar with all the hardware issues. Is 800V too much or to little?

You mean 800W not 800V, 800 W is Wattage, 800 V is Voltage, computers run on 12V, 800V would instantly kill your PC.

He was just joking. 800W is fine.

If you keep your temperatures in check overclocking by a bit should be fine, you might want to consider an aftermarket cooler or water cooling setup. Otherwise I wouldn't trust anything above 80°C with a significant OC.
