New headset : Pimax Crystal

Not used them yet, they feel ok though.I didn't use the controlers on my Reverb G2,they feel ok.What i'm saying is i dont really have any experience with any controllers,to me they're just controllers.
Ah right ok, if u don't use them then that's fair enough. Asking because the controllers have really mixed feedback from users.

Hi to all

I have just received a replacement Crystal from Pimax.
The new device came with a slightly thicker cable with two USB connectors. I still have the old cable, which is a bit thinner and has only one USB connector. I have read that there are different cables and of course I only want to use the best. So witch one should i use?
The thinner cable with 1 usb connection is the fiber optic cable and is regarded as the better cable (none of them are brilliant though, i've had several fail with my 8kx).

Another review :

^ good news for base station / index controllers users but i'm avoiding needing them, i want to get rid of my base stations for reasons of declutter and being easily able to play in different areas. Up to now Pimax's inbuilt tracking is reviewing poorly, that and the missing wifi and high price is why i haven't bought it.

Hows things with the Crystal nowadays..
I'm getting the itch to upgrade from a G2. Struggling with the sweat spot!
I recommend anti-perspirant for your sweat issue :p :D

The Crystal seems to be coming along, new features are being added like eye tracking, no wifi yet though. @Zeeflyboy is a Crystal owner and might be able to provide insight, iirc used to own (or maybe still does) a G2. I don't own a Crystal as nowadays i won't buy a hmd without wifi but i own a Pimax hmd. Pimax have their detractors, their support if something goes wrong can be iffy, but i've had no real problems. If you decide to buy I'd advise to buy from Amazon if you can.

Any of you Crystal owners based around Birmingham? Now I have a Q3 for comparison... I fancy getting on the Pimax
I think @Zeeflyboy has a Crystal and Quest 3. If you don't find anyone near you you could buy from it from the rain forest and return it within 30 days if you don't gel with it.

Finally the promised wifi is demonstrated to a 3rd party. It's quite apparent it is not in a finished/release ready state but good to see it is getting there. The lack of wifi was what put me off buying a Crystal, I think now after using MR with my Quest 3 i'd want the Crystal to have MR too before considering buying it, iirc MR is (was?) an intended feature.

Pimax Crystal Light, which is a Pimax Crystal with all the standalone bits removed.

Looks a decent proposition (imo) if you're after a PCVR only VR headset. $799 (probably plus taxes? not sure) for such a high resolution headset with inside out tracking and controllers looks good, caveats are it's Pimax and the controllers might be not so good although Seb says they are ok in this video.

The weight is reduced a lot but it's still bulky. If I wanted a PCVR only headset I'd be seriously considering this, but I like good quality standalone too much now. If I had the spare cash it'd be cool to have this just for sims etc.

Seb being negative about some aspects of Pimax, at times they shoot themselves in the foot so to speak with how they do business imo.

Pimax have had QC issues since they started, maybe this is common it seems with VR headsets, always seems to be numerous complaints about them although Pimax appear to attract more complaints than most.

Tl;dr : she really likes it. Not sure how unbiased she is but she's been critical of Pimax in the past. If I still played pcvr games and could afford 2 vr headsets (I won't be without a Q3 because of MR and wifi) I'd consider the PCL.
